Featured Artist: Juan Sin Miedo

You can find some of the best graphic resources in Freepik because we are lucky enough to work with great artists. One of them is Juan Sin Miedo. That’s why we want to introduce him, so his work can inspire you.
Some people, like our star illustrator and graphic artist Juan Sin Miedo, are lucky enough to mix art and work. Although he mostly works with clients and brands, art is always present in his projects.

Regarding this idea of combining work with art, he says he’s been “building a particular graphic line and a way to express myself in each project. This, in time, helped me become not just a graphic designer but a graphic artist.”

A Matter of Referrers

This Colombian graphic artist and illustrator started forging a style of his own at the end of 2013. One that has been polished and perfected through time.
To achieve this, Juan not only had to exercise his technique but also had to devour the work of other artists. In this sense, having good referrers became essential.

“I have many referrers who come from different areas. To mention just a few who had an impact on my work, I have to name Aryz, Nychos, and Obey on urban art; Hydro 74 and Dr. Alderete on vectorial illustration. On design, people like Jon Contino and studies like I Love Dust and Vault 49.
Also national illustrators such as Raeioul, Alejo Giraldo, Armando Mesias and Manifiesto 79. They inspired and made me want to dedicate myself to illustration in a country like Colombia.”

Urban Digital Artist

The choice of referrers says a lot about Juan Sin Miedo’s style; however, his imagination made him stand out from the rest, helping him create different images.
It’s hard branding his art with a tagline. Part of his style is related to urban art, but there’s also some graffiti and punk aesthetic.

When talking about his creations, Juan says.
“It has always been difficult for me to label my style. I think that it is a mixture of elements from two worlds that usually wouldn’t combine. On the one hand, there’s street art, independent music, and other urban expressions. On the other, the visual language from design and vectorial illustration. They both have influenced my work. So I guess that, if I need to give it a name, it would be “Urban Digital.”

From The Wall, To Your Screen and Beyond

When someone creates any piece, it’s because they try to communicate something. But when a designer is so prolific, we wonder how high they can get.
We had to ask Juan this question.

“As a designer and illustrator, I’ve always wanted to collaborate with big brands; also as the mastermind behind any kind of designs. Up to this point, I’ve participated in a wide variety of projects, like this one for Freepik, but aside from that, as an artist, I want to find different ways to have a positive impact with my creations.”

Besides his job as an illustrator/graphic designer, Juan has an audiovisual project on Youtube called TraqueTv. There he wants to show the illustrator job from a dynamic and relaxed perspective.
