Summers and Designing; the Perfect Match

You know, there is always a ‘right time’ for everything and it seems like summers compliment the designer inside you better than any other time of the year. While lying on the beach in the morning, breathing fresh air, or while hoping for a good tan in the evening or while sipping your favorite lemonade, beating the scorching sun, your mind can produce ideas and designs than can surprise you and your clients, but why? Isn’t it the same you during other seasons as well? What changes in summers? Creativity has a lot to do with your feelings and emotions, your thought process and habits, your addictions and interests, which are highly influenced by various external factors including the weather. You are likely to feel differently as the season unfolds and so the changes are reflected in your work, making you more creative in one season that the other. This article will help you understand the relationship between summers and designing, teach you how you can polish your designing skills in summers and raise your urges to produce extraordinary designs this summer!

Warm Weather Playing with Your Mind

Looks like science has a lot to say about the impact of weather changes on your work. Warm weather proves to be beneficial for improving your memory and mood and broadens your mind, brining pleasant changes to your cognitive abilities. Summers are all about light clothes and spending time outdoors during the day which makes one happier and relaxed. The days are longer and more productive because the limitations are less, as compared to winters when you cannot get out of your bed half the day because of the freezing cold and lethargy that comes along with the weather. People are generally seen to be more proactive during summers and researches have proved that the human body works faster when it is warm and designs and ideas are something that come from within, when something clicks your mind and you have to be calm and relaxed to produce worthwhile designs. So grab your favorite drink with some extra ice cubes and start designing!

Exploiting the Color Canvas

We often hear ourselves say ‘this is not a summer color’ or ‘this wouldn’t look good these days’. But colors don’t change their appearances with seasons and look the same throughout the year yet you might not always like them. With changes in the weather, our tastes change too. Black seems too dark in summers because it absorbs heat while it becomes your favorite color in winters, similarly neon colors take a bow during summers and you observe yourself playing with greens, oranges and yellows in your designs. The color pallet expands during summers and you can use various shades and combinations in your designs, making your more creative, as the options are now more than they ever were in the year. You can mix tons of colors together and the final one would never be ‘too loud’ or ‘too bold’. Summers are all about colors and colors accelerate your creativity.

Travelling and Innovation

Summers are the best time to travel, because you don’t have to worry about carrying sweaters, jackets and blankets to fight the atrocities of the weather nor do your children have to miss their schools and colleges to have some fun time and while you travel to a different country or even to a different city, you are exposed to a completely new lifestyle and culture. People of different geographic regions have their own culture, values, traditions, behaviors and psychology, which will be a pleasant surprise for a visitor. Along with feeling overwhelmed, you will learn new things and wonder ‘Oh, I have never even thought of it’, giving you new dimensions to ponder over and new designs and ideas to portray in your work. People usually travel more in summers and the more you travel, the more you learn, helping you fight monotony in your designs and expand the range of your work.

Lasting Forever and Ever

If you generally think of summers, you are not thinking of something that is foreign or unusual, because in most parts of the world, summers last longer than winters and it usually warm round the year, while one rarely experiences cold. The idea and feel of a warm weather is comforting and since it is almost always summer, one is used to working in the very weather. You have produced hundreds of designs and ideas and have developed a strong grip on the patterns, shades and texture that work well during the season. You know that darker shades are a ‘no-no’ during hotter days and rough textures may not be very favorable when the sun is shining bright. The guidelines are practiced so often and so much that you no longer have to refer to them but everything just falls in place. Designing is easier when you are comfortable and when you are not bombarded with obligations, because they have already become a part of your designing style.

So Much to Explore and Experiment

Personally, I feel there is a lot that you can do in summers that helps and aids your designing skills, because there is no formula for developing good designs and ideas. You can go swimming or play football and observe something that can be your next big shot or you can spend your nights driving through the streets, sipping coffee from your favorite shop and blend in the colors on the wall to fill your canvas. In summers, you are doing a lot, from your outdoor activities to your travelling plans to your morning walks and getting body tans and what not while in winters, you are just hiding under the blanket, having dry fruits and creativity comes from motion. You cannot stare at a white wall all day and get ideas but a five minute walk can fill your diaries for days. Summers are about activities and developing better designs in your mind.

Keep designing till the summer lasts!
