Rocío Villalba, Google Slides and PowerPoint template designer for Slidesgo
Rocío, graphic designer at Slidesgo, is here today to tell us what a typical day creating presentation templates for PowerPoint and Google Slides is like. Find out how she set out on this adventure and how she’s able to make each slide unique.
“First things first… Inspiration!”
Finding the proper inspiration is key to getting off on the right foot. To do that, she looks for the latest trends and the most innovative resources on Freepik. As soon as she finds original illustrations and photos that fire up her creativity, the ideas start to flow. She also makes sure to research the topic: marketing, education, medicine…
Next, she chooses the color palette and the typography, making sure that both of them work well together. She also gathers all the resources that she’ll need for the presentation.
Then, it’s time to start designing! Both Google Slides and PowerPoint use master slides. These define the basic structure of the presentation, and all the slides of the presentation derive from them. So, after working on the master slides, it’s all set to begin creating the actual slides that everyone will get to see!
“A presentation must be coherent, practical and visually appealing”
These are the three main pillars of her templates. A presentation must be coherent so all the slides are well integrated and there’s a logical progression from slide to slide. It must also be practical so any user can make the most of it in an easy way. Finally, it must be visually appealing so the target audience understands the message and remembers it. She suggests checking out Celiac Disease Presentation as an example of this mindset.
Rocío emphasizes the wide versatility that every template provides. Even though they are sorted by category, all the templates can be adapted to any topic, which means any user can incorporate their message in any design. She also points out that there’s a new interesting feature in Slidesgo: some templates offer alternative colors to choose from, allowing for an even higher customization.
We asked her about her most inspiring creation. Without any hesitation, she suggested having a look at Web Designer Portfolio, a template whose design allows the user to link the content to the title slide, making it a dynamic choice.
Finally, we asked her about what is the most important thing when it comes to designing templates.
“I think that being passionate about what you do is essential if you want to get good results and avoid uninteresting designs”
