How this man became the first established tattoo artist in History

 

Tattoo parlors aren’t a rare sighting nowadays, since you can find them easily with a quick search on Google. But, who was the first tattoo artist ever? It’s difficult to tell, because people have been inking their skins since very, very long ago, in very different cultures.

But, in Victorian England, a man called Sutherland Macdonald was recognized as the first person to call it a profession. He learnt much by traveling around the sea, but when he came back to his country he was the first to open a professional studio, which actually charged for ink work.

In 1894, he was already drawing beautiful and carefully designed pieces for his clients, and in these old black and white photographs you can see the backs, sleeves and chest tattoo pieces that he was already creating. This was the very beginning of a new professional career, back then!
