4 Ways to Help You Be Your Client’s Favorite Designer

When you think of initiating your work, you are always wondering about ‘How will I get my first client?’ because clients might not be willing to risk their projects and money with someone who is new into the business, but eventually, with strong marketing skills, exceptional designing potential and personal relationships, you do find your first client and you cannot resist but to go gaga over him! And once you do, there is no looking back. One client after another and another and before you even realize, with your hard work and abilities, you become the talk of the town. But, the real challenge for you, as a designer, is not to find your first client or to have a lot of clients, but the actual goal is to retain your clients and satisfy their designing needs so they don’t have to look for another designer, ever again! But, someone somewhere is always better than you and you never know when your clients will find him and might leave you. To make them stay happily and love you for your work, you need to do more than just developing designs. This article will help you understand how you can be your client’s favorite designer, making it right to their hearts!

  • Deliver Work on Time

Nothing is more seductive than delivering work on time. With so many designers in business, there are certain qualities which will help you stand out in the crowd and the most important one is punctuality. If your designer is expecting work on a certain day and instead of giving him the designs, you present a bunch of excuses of why you couldn’t complete the work, I am sure he is never hiring you again! All that your clients want from you is work and if you are unable to give it to them when you promised to or when they need it, what good are you to them? You should never agree to a date if you know you would not be able to complete it by then because it is such a turn off for the client. For them to like you, you have to be very professional and competent and design like they asked you to and deliver when they asked you to. Be on time, be their favorite!

  • Improve Your Work and Keep Learning

The only way you can maintain your competitive edge over other designers is by being the best at what you do. If you are capable of developing innovative and eye-catching designs, deliver work on time and respect your clients, the clients will love you, even if they try to resist. Everyone wants the best designs, ones that are creative, artistic and pleasant to the eye and something that their competitors cannot imitate. Although it may sound a piece of cake for a designer, but to make designs that stand out and make it right to the heart of the client is not an easy job, however, if you are constantly learning the art to develop designs, know all the gorgeous color combinations you can try, have a strong understanding of the patterns and can interpret the needs of the client, then you surely are the best and everyone’s favorite. Get used to hearing ‘His designs are the best. I love his work’.

  • Listen More, Talk Less

Your clients do not like to hear that ‘I know my work. Please be patient’, rather they love to know that their opinions and ideas are worthwhile and the designer is considering them. Often, clients can be tough because they do not know the technicalities of designing and insist on something which might not work well for their work. Sometimes it gets hard for you to remain calm but you have to, because clients add value to your work and they must be respected and appreciated. Also, clients are very sensitive towards payments. They may sometimes argue for a few dollars if they think you are charging more, although paying those few dollars would do them no harm nor getting those dollars will add to your fortune, however, if you agree to their charges, they’d love you for it. The idea is to let them share their ideas and listen attentively because not just will they be inclined towards you for your time and attention but might as well give you some excellent ideas as well.

  • Keep In Touch

Your clients will never be able to get over you, if you stay in touch with them. It could be through your Facebook or Twitter accounts or through your website. Your team or you personally need to post constantly on your social media accounts to let your existing clients and your potential clients know what you are doing. Update them about your latest work or share your pictures from your weekend fun or may be a post to discuss about this new movie everyone is talking about it. They need to know what you are doing these days and see your work to be tempted enough to choose you over all the other designers. How about sending your regular clients Christmas cards or cards on other occasions? This will send them a message that you remember and care about them and that they matter. There is no way they will forget you now!

With so many designers doing such a great job, it gets difficult for the clients to choose who to go to, but it takes something as small as a smile you give when a client enters into your office or the way you listen to his ideas and respond attentively, to make him your lifetime client. Make sure that you are able to understand the psychology of your clients, understand that each client is different from the other and has his own taste yet all of them are looking for unique designs, your time and effort and your warmth!
