Flux AI on Freepik
We implemented a new model for image generation in our AI image generator. The model is called Flux, and it steps up the game of AI images. Here are some basic facts and useful how-to’s you should know.
What is Flux AI?
If you haven’t heard of Flux before, it’s understandable. This model is brand new. Flux was created by Black Forest Labs, a company founded by previous Stable Diffusion developers.
Flux AI is an open-source model using a cutting-edge technology that is designed to deliver image quality that rivals the industry’s top models. Unlike other AI tools that often require advanced technical knowledge, Flux on Freepik is fully integrated and user-friendly, making high-quality image generation accessible to everyone, from beginners to seasoned professionals.
Why Flux AI is a game changer
Freepik team has done an extensive testing of the model, and we quickly came to a conclusion that the results made with Flux are outstanding, so switching to it in our AI tools is no question.
However, the way the model reads and understands the text in prompts is slightly different from what we were used to until now. So, we summed up our findings and prepared a list of tips so you can get the best AI images possible.
Three kinds of Flux are available
Freepik offers three variants of Flux AI, each tailored to different user needs:
- Flux Fast: Ideal for users who need quick and reliable image generation, Flux Fast is designed to adhere closely to prompts, making it perfect for tasks that require rapid turnaround. It’s available to all users, making it an excellent entry point for those new to AI image generation.
- Flux: This variant, accessible to Premium users, offers image quality on par with the best models in the market. It’s perfect for projects where visual fidelity is paramount, providing professional-grade results without the hassle of complex setups.
- Flux Realism: If photorealism is your goal, Flux Realism is the variant for you. Exclusively available to Premium users, this variant excels at creating lifelike images, making it ideal for projects that require true-to-life visuals, such as product mockups or realistic character designs.
How to use Flux?
1. Choose your Flux model
Depending on your project needs, select from Flux Fast, Flux, or Flux Realism. Free users will automatically have access to Flux Fast, while Premium users can choose between the advanced capabilities of Flux and Flux Realism.
2. Craft your prompt
The quality of your generated image starts with the prompt. Be as detailed and specific as possible to ensure the output aligns with your vision. We’ve covered a few useful prompting tips below.
3. Customize the image
Use the styling buttons provided by Freepik to add more effects to the final result. It’s like spicing up your prompt without using the words.
Prompting tips for Flux
This post may seem like a long one, but prompting with Flux is fairly simple. Just stick to these few rules:
- Use natural language
- Be specific
- Shorter prompts work better
- Pay attention to conflicting words
- Have fun with generating text
- And even more fun with adding styling
Let’s dig into a bit more detail.
Now, less is more
Use the fewest necessary words to convey the main idea of your prompt. Simplicity can yield better results. For less artificial portraits, use words like “candid” or “fashion editorial”.

Ask for exactly what you need
This model much more “faithful” to the prompt, so you need to be more careful and review the text thoroughly. Detailed description helps a lot, but don’t go off on tangents and try to use only words that describe exactly what you need.

Don’t confuse it
If your prompt is longer, carefully review it to identify if two words conflict, which could prevent getting the desired result. Remember to keep it simple and ensure that the words do not neg each other. E.g. Don’t use “retro” and “modern” to describe one aspect.
Example of a well written prompt – Portrait of a person standing in a dimly lit room, with a single beam of bright sunlight illuminating their face, black outfit with subtle white accents.
This prompt is clear and specific, with no impossible contradictions. The contrast between dim lighting and a beam of sunlight is visually interesting and achievable, as the contrast between black clothing and subtle white accents.
Example of a confusing prompt – Create a portrait of a person standing in complete darkness with bright sunlight shining on them while wearing an outfit that is completely black and white.
The prompt is contradictory, being in both complete darkness and bright sunlight as the outfit black and white at the same time, makes the request confusing and results ends up being unclear.
Use natural language
The best working prompts for Flux are the ones that are less “robotic” and use more natural language. Imagine you’re explaining your desired image to your friend and Flux will do wonders.
Example of natural prompt – Illustrate a rainy city street at night, with reflections of neon lights in the puddles.
The language flows naturally, making the scene easy to visualize.
Example of an unnatural prompt – Render a depiction of an urban thoroughfare during precipitation events at nocturnal hours, with photon-emitting signage reflecting in aqueous collections on the ground.
This prompt uses unnecessarily technical language, which can be confusing and unnatural, so the result looks less attractive.
Generate signs and letters
Flux is very reliable when it comes to generating text in images (YES, finally.) Just add a “sign with “word” and cca 8/10 images will have the correct spelling.

Add more character with styles
If you want to experiment with different finishes, and add a bit more flare to your image, we found that these words and phrases work really well. Try adding them to your prompt.
Light
- “golden hour”
- “backlit”
- “light trails”
- “soft lighting”
