New design skills to ensure success in 2023

2022 has almost come to an end and, as is customary at this time of year, we’re all starting to think about what 2023 may hold for us and the challenges we must face to ensure success.

After a few years marked by the restrictions put in place as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the first Christmas that we can enjoy as normal. And, without a doubt, this will help us look forward to next year with optimism and with the motivation to continue to improve and learn.

We are living in a constantly changing world. That’s why, as a designer, it’s important to be prepared to adapt to the new times and above all to new platforms and content, which require an increasing level of creative work.

In this post we want to tell you about some of the trends that will mark 2023. We are already familiar with some of them, as is the case of Artificial Intelligence and remote working, which has brought about an authentic revolution in recent years that will impact our future.

Others, such as the Metaverse, are still new concepts to us, but we’re sure they’ll get people talking in 2023 and in the coming years.

Against this backdrop, it’s best to start thinking about the design skills that can help you position your profile so that you’ll be more prepared than ever to take on next year and face up to all the new creative challenges that it will bring.

Trends that will mark 2023

It may seem as though things are looking bleak. In fact, we are in the midst of a somewhat uncertain and unstable global situation. And whether we like it or not, that makes us think that we must be prepared for anything.

What is for sure is that 2023 will be full of opportunities for us to continue focusing our efforts on creating a more stable, safer and more sustainable world for all by promoting the new technologies, data and greater connectivity.

As a designer, you must also adapt and get ready to face the new year. So, pay close attention, because below are some of the trends that you must be ready for:

  • Teleworking or hybrid ways of working are here to stay. More and more companies have opted to give their employees more flexibility by adapting their working days and schedules to teleworking, with less hours in the office but always fulfilling the proposed goals. Without a doubt, this is one trend that will be consolidated next year.
  • Artificial Intelligence continues to play a key role in the technological revolution. While it is not a new concept, thanks to the progress made in recent years almost all electronic devices now include this technology, so we’ll have to adapt and familiarize ourselves with it more and more.
  • Welcome to the Metaverse! While 2022 gave us a glimpse of some of the characteristics of this digital universe, there is still much more to develop and explore. However, prepare to really examine and master it, because in 2023, a great number of people will be ready to take the leap into this parallel world that is sure to get people talking.
  • Accustomed to the formats and, let’s face it, all the “posing” that happens on social media, we’re already witnessing a “boom” of platforms that seek to transmit more realistic experiences. You need look no further than how BeReal has currently become one of the most frequently downloaded apps. There are no filters or subsequent editing in this app, just “plain and simple” reality.

What skills will you need to ensure success in 2023?

So, now you know some of the trends that will arrive in 2023, which will influence the type of designer needed by companies to meet their creative and content needs according to this new horizon.

design skills

Although there is no definitive key to success, we’re sure that with foresight and consistency your efforts will yield results and you will be able to forge your place as a designer in 2023 by working on the following design skills

  • Independence and problem-solving skills. In a professional world in which teleworking is increasingly frequent, as a designer it is essential to be able to perform your work independently to meet the proposed goals. In this sense, it is fundamental to learn how to organize and manage the deadlines of each project yourself, as well as to develop the ability to resolve any problem that may arise during the process.
  • Learn about new Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. As we’ve already mentioned, this will be one of the technologies that will be ever more present in our day-to-day life. Don’t lose any time and start to become familiar with it, because the creative industry will experience its own revolution through the generation of images with AI.
  • They say that the Metaverse will be virtual but “its impact will be real”. As real as the creative need resulting from this universe for generating 3D graphic material. So, if you haven’t done so yet, it may be a good time to get started in three-dimensional design. Who knows which virtual world you may reach? We can help you take your first steps with lots of 3D models that are ready for editing.
  • In 2023, we’ll have immersive experiences, virtual worlds and artificial intelligence, but that must all go hand in hand with a large user demand for consuming and communicating more realistic experiences. So, one of the most required skills will also be related to the ability to generate and publish content adapted to this trend.

Of course, companies will also continue to demand other skills such as the ability to learn, communicate and generate business. It all adds up.

Communication will continue to be one of the most important skills for a graphic designer. At the end of the day, your job is to transmit a message visually, so communication will always be the key to success in your professional career.

Start to think about your next challenge, because it’s time to take your design career to the next level. 2023 could be your year!
